CAR ownership often factors in the cost of maintenance and periodical vehicle parts replacement used to account for a painful sum on the wallet. In recent times, carmakers as well as distributors are trying to make this aspect of car ownership as painless as possible.
Extending factory warranty on parts is definitely a step in the right direction and Volvo Car Malaysia recently came on board in this painless strategy. It revised its warranty programme to a factory five-years/unlimited mileage for all privately owned Volvo cars registered from 1st January, 2021.
Prior to that, Volvo car owners were entitled to a standard three-year/100,000km factory warranty with a combined two-year/20,000km Extended Warranty Programme (EWP) provided by an external insurance partner. That meant the additional warranty period had to be paid for.
This new warranty period revision is expected to give Volvo car owners ‘peace of mind’ for a longer five-year period from the date the new vehicle is delivered to the person. It adds on to the company’s assurance that the vehicle would receive a ‘premium service experience carried out by Volvo’s trained technicians’.
Managing director Nalin Jain said: “This new offering is part of our dedication to quality, particularly in relation to our vehicles and customer relationship. At Volvo Car Malaysia, every decision made is designed around the customer’s needs and to solidify their trust in Volvo. We want our customers to feel supported throughout the ownership of their vehicle and believe that the new extended factory warranty is a step in the right direction as a premium car brand that is rooted in safety.”
It is emphasised that this new extended factory warranty is provided for privately owned vehicles only and not applicable to vehicles registered or used for commercial purposes. Although it is highly unlikely that a Volvo vehicle owner might take to doing Grab duties to earn an extra buck in difficult times, it would seem certain that such a just-in-case scenario would disqualify the vehicle from this extended period warranty.
This latest factory warranty revision follows up on an earlier one made in December 2020. At that time, Volvo Cars Malaysia announced that all customers who purchased a Volvo Plug-in Hybrid Vehicle (PHEV) were entitled to an extended high voltage (HV) battery warranty period of up to eight-years or 160,000km. The company reasoned that through this, it would not only extend support of moving into a sustainable future but also ensured that customers remained confident in Volvo’s quality, long-life components.
The overall objective is clear as Nalin explained: “Our end goal of this initiative is to allow our customers feel the utmost comfort when driving a Volvo car, free of worries. We allow them to fully experience the innovation and technology that goes into our cars, and by doing so we could provide our customers with the freedom to move in a personal, sustainable and safe way.” - LPS
